New BCEC Featured at ASAE Foundation Silent Auction

The Greater Boston Convention & Visitors Bureau (GBCVB) and the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority (MCCA) have donated a meeting package at the new Boston Convention & Exhibition Center (BCEC) to the Foundation of the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE). This donation equals the largest in the history of the Foundation's Silent Auction Program.

The package includes facility rental for an association meeting in late 2004 or beyond, subject to availability, at the new BCEC, opening in June 2004. When it opens the BCEC will be the largest convention facility in the Northeast with 515,000 square feet of contiguous exhibition space, 160,000 square feet of meeting space, 86 meeting rooms, 52 loading docks with drive- on access to the show floor, and a 41,000 square foot ballroom. "ASAE and the ASAE Foundation are extremely fortunate to be the beneficiaries of a tremendous package up for bidding at this year's Annual Meeting in Hawaii," said ASAE President and CEO Michael S. Olson, CAE. "The Boston Convention & Exhibition Center package is the centerpiece of the 2003 Silent Auction, and should prove very attractive indeed to the many association executives considering the city of Boston as a future convention destination. All of the proceeds from this donation, of course, will go directly to enhance ASAE Foundation research programs to benefit the association management profession."

"Boston has a long-standing successful relationship with ASAE. When the opportunity presented itself to assist the Foundation with this donation, we jumped at the opportunity," said Patrick B. Moscaritolo, President & CEO of the GBCVB. "The research programs that ASAE undertakes that benefit the association management profession are very valuable. We're pleased we can support this effort". "ASAE represents our most important business constituency - the association market, and we are thrilled to be showcased in front of the ASAE membership and at the same time, provide a donation that will help further the work of the ASAE Foundation," said James E. Rooney, interim CEO of the MCCA.

The BCEC package is up for bid at the 2003 ASAE Foundation Silent Auction, held in conjunction with the ASAE Annual Meeting and Exposition August 23 - 26 in Honolulu, HI. Association executives unable to attend the Annual Meeting are eligible to bid on this auction item by e-mail (auction@asaenet.org) or fax (202-371- 2805) through August 23, or by designating a proxy to place a bid during the Hawaii meeting. The winning bidder on this package will be free to use as much space as needed for their meeting, based on historical use and forecasted growth. Special conditions on the package include a minimum room block of 2,000 rooms on peak night, if the building is used between 2004 and 2008, and a block of 2,500 rooms on peak night if the building is used in 2009 through 2012. This package includes facility rental charges only, and a minimum bid of $50,000 is required. For additional information about the Silent Auction, please contact the ASAE Foundation at 202-626-2764.
