Greater Boston Convention & Visitors Bureau Coordinates Housing Outside of Boston for the First Time

The Greater Boston Convention & Visitors Bureau will coordinate housing services for the 131st Annual Meeting and Exposition of the American Public Health Association (APHA) in San Francisco this year. APHA is the oldest and largest organization of public health professionals in the world, representing more than 50,000 members from over 50 occupations of public health. This marks the first time the GBCVB has handled housing for a group outside of Boston.

The APHA Annual Meeting & Exposition is scheduled to take place November 15 - 19, 2003, at the Moscone Convention Center, with an expected attendance of 12,500. APHA has contracted nearly 4,500 peak hotel rooms with 14 San Francisco area hotels.

APHA last met in Boston from November 12 - 16, 2000. At that time, the GBCVB assisted 13,397 attendees secure 21,118 room nights at 21 Boston Hotels. APHA was so pleased with their experience was so great, that they have contracted with the GBCVB to handle their housing for the next three meetings. Boston will welcome the association back in 2006 when they are scheduled to meet at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center.

·  Meetingpath.com Endorsement

Meetingpath.com is a web-site run by the Greater Boston Convention & Visitors Bureau that brings together all of the suppliers you need to get in touch with to help plan your meeting in Boston. If you haven't tried Meetingpath.com yet -- you should! See what Aspen Publishers had to say:

"Using your website for our 2003 Summer Sales Conference has made planning for this meeting delightful. I never knew such a site existed....I cannot thank..the Greater Boston Convention & Visitors Bureau enough for running this amazingly easy resource. With one click of a button my meeting requirements were sent to 29 different hotels/properties of which I have received a proposal or response from 17. I have been so organized for this meeting since my initial hit on your site that I have been able to negotiate competitive rates from the hotels in the Boston/Cambridge area. It is because of this that we will be holding our 2003 Summer Sales Conference in Boston instead of New York City. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for meetingpath.com..." ·  Logan Airport Security Updates

On January 1, 2003, Logan International Airport began screening 100% of checked baggage. The system used was the first in the nation approved by the federal government. Thousands of trades people and other professionals from across the country worked around the clock to complete two years of planning, designing and construction in nine months.

Secretary Tom Ridge, U.S. Department of Homeland Security, came to Boston on June 4, 2003 and made the following statement: "....if you want to talk about leaning forward into the wind and taking on a challenge....this is a group of people who took it upon themselves to do it once and to do it right the first time. They didn't wait for the federal government to offer them money or show them the way. They decided, 'This is the mandate; we're going to get it done...' And the notion that they were able to configure that airport in a permanent way...and get up to speed and up and running by January 1st of this year is truly a testament to will, to planning, to energy and...to the patriotism of everyone involved, because they decided they were going to do it. Logan would lead the way..."
